LeBron James Named Eastern Conference Player of the Week

Jan 9 2012 3:52PM

MIAMI, January 9 – The NBA announced today that Miami HEAT forward LeBron James was named the Eastern Conference Player of Week for games played January 2, through January 8. This marks the 33rd time James has earned Player of the Week accolades in his career, the most times a player has earned the honors in NBA history. It also marks the 35th time in franchise history a HEAT player has earned Player of the Week honors and the seventh time James has earned the honor as a member of the HEAT.

He appeared in three games, averaging 31.0 points, 9.3 assists, 7.3 rebounds, 1.33 steals and 38.0 minutes while shooting 60.7 percent (34-of-56) from the field. He recorded one double-double as he led the team in scoring in all three games he appeared while also leading the team in assists and minutes twice each and in steals once.

James scored a game-high 28 points while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out six assists after shooting 11-of-18 from the field vs. Atlanta on January 2. He then led Miami to a 35-point, 118-83, win vs. Indiana on January 4, the franchise’s seventh-largest win in their history, after posting a 33-point, 13-assist double-double, including eight rebounds and two steals in 37:41 minutes of action. After sitting out the contest against the Atlanta Hawks on January 5 due to a sprained left ankle, James dropped in 22 points in the first quarter at New Jersey on January 7 while on his way to posting 32 points, nine assists, seven rebounds, two steals and a block in the 101-90 victory. Additionally, the 22 first quarter points were only one point shy of tying the HEAT franchise first quarter record and only two points shy from tying the franchise record for points in any quarter.

James has currently scored at least 30 points in six-straight road games, a new HEAT franchise record for consecutive 30-point games on the road. He also has shot at least 55 percent from the field in every contest he has appeared in this season, which is tied for the fourth-longest streak, and the best by a non-center, in Miami’s history. Among league leaders this season, James ranks first in scoring (30.1), third in field goal percentage (.601), tied for fourth in steals (2.00), tied for ninth in assists (7.6), tied for 14th in minutes (36.3) and tied for 25th in rebounds (7.6).
