Nuggets recognize former Avalanche forward Peter Forsberg
The Nuggets honored a great power forward on Friday.
This one did his best work on the ice, rather than the hardwood.
Team president Josh Kroenke and executive vice president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri were among the team officials who presented former Colorado Avalanche forward Peter Forsberg with an honorary No. 21 Nuggets jersey at the Pepsi Center.
Forsberg helped the Avalanche win two Stanley Cup titles in 12 seasons and retired as the fourth-leading scorer in franchise history. The team will retire his number during a ceremony before Saturday night’s season-opener against the Detroit Red Wings.
“I don’t know much about hockey, but that’s one name I used to hear all the time on SportsCenter,” Ujiri said. “You could tell he was a winner. After his goals, he didn’t celebrate much. It was all about winning. No matter what sport, you try to instill that in young players.”
Ujiri and Kroenke were joined by Nuggets media relations director Tim Gelt, equipment manager Sparky Gonzales, executive director of basketball administration Lisa Johnson and media relations manager Nick O’Hayre.
